Who
SOul ZOne Ministries is an independent campus ministry at Carleton College. It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, supported by churches and individuals, and accountable to its board of directors. Our core team consists of:
Gary and Deb Hvass. Gary and Deb were in pastoral ministry in
Minnesota for more than two decades before starting SOul ZOne in 2001. They have ministered under the guidance of the Evangelical Free Church since 1990. Gary graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary in 1980, and Deb from the University of Minnesota in 1986. Deb wrote marketing communications for 15 years. They have two grown children and four grandchildren.
Deb and Gary both focus full-time on campus ministry, serving as spiritual leaders, advisors and mentors. The hub of their ministry is the Cottage, at which they often host students.
Will and Cully Craig, James and Liam. Will is a 1994 alumnus of Carleton and a full-time multimedia architectural consultant. He advises Carleton’s FCA group. Cully’s full-time focus is James and Liam. Both Cully and Will serve as mentors, advisors and leaders on campus. They also host a Christian alumni weekend biannually. Along with James and Liam, they open their home, less than a mile from campus, to offer warm hospitality, great food and spiritual training to students.
